THE PROJECT
Two separate apartments, developed on two floors, merge to become a single residence. The union made possible by the opening of a large gap in the confinement wall between the two units, has allowed an orderly and coherent redistribution of spaces.
On the ground floor there is a first area with the kitchen with an adjoining utility room, and the dining area separated from each other by a large glass wall that always leaves the two areas connected.
The master bedroom area is located on the first floor. A real suite made up of a large bedroom, the private bathroom for him, the private bathroom for her which gives access to a large shared walk-in closet with entrance also from the hallway.
In the second accommodation on the ground floor, the conversation area, with an adjoining library room, where the protagonist is a large island sofa so as to be oriented both towards the TV, the rigorously preserved ancient fireplace and towards the outdoor space where a large swimming pool stands out.
On the first floor, the sleeping area of the two children has been redesigned: each one has a large bedroom and a private bathroom.
THE CONCEPT
There are two main themes of this project. The first concerns the architectural part of the house: in joining the two apartments we tried to enhance the breadth of the spaces through a visual depth that ranges from one room to another as well as from one floor to another, thanks to the use of glass walls and slabs that offer all-round perspectives and glimpses, allowing each room to have a precise intended use, but at the same time to make them flow into each other. The second concerns the interior decoration part: we wished to give a modern and absolutely contemporary soul to an almost rural external body so that when you open the door of the house you enter an unexpected space and dimension.
Abandoning the country-style area, the clients wanted much more glamorous interiors.
The light rustic and bleached woods were repainted with dark coloured Kerakoll micro resin, the old rustic tile coverings with wide joints gave way to continuous surfaces in Kerakoll resin, the old style upholstery was replaced by Wall&Decò and Glamora wallpaper with colourful and impressive graphics.
The windows and doors of the original project were kept in order not to disfigure the external facade, but internally they were repainted with Kerakoll enamel to match the wall so as to be more modern and give continuity to the internal surfaces.
The old wooden staircase has been replaced with a new custom-made one: a six-meter-high glass plate supports the cantilevered “box” steps, also covered in resin, thus giving a sense of great lightness.
Absolute protagonist since it is visible from every environment and animated by the perpetual movement and explosion of colours of the large aquarium that closes and defines the space below the landing.
The Modulnova kitchen is characterised by a long wall of columns with IRON DUST finish set against the wall and interspersed with niches enhanced by games of light and covered in smoked oak. This is the essence used also for the table and for the doors on one side of the large work island placed in the middle of the environment, with top, sides and back finished in anthracite kerlite pietra di savoia.
The volume that defines the service area attached to the kitchen and characterised by the dark-coloured Microriga Kerakoll finish, is wrapped in a suspended container by Lema. Also by Lema the dining unit as well as the library furnishings.
On the other hand, the boiseries that house the TVs in the dining and conversation area are by Modulnova, as are the two floor-to-ceiling columns, which also serve to camouflage a supporting column, in the background of the large ATLAS sofa by Arketipo.
In the sleeping area all the rooms are linked by the same design theme, yet each of them maintains its own personality.
In the bedrooms, the strictly textile beds rest on walls characterised by wallpaper with graphics chosen by the clients.
The children’ bathrooms are characterised by the cleanliness of the continuous surfaces in resin, a material also used for the furnishings so as to create a monolithic effect. Also the main wall of the shower is covered by a very colourful Wall&Decò water-resistant wallpaper
In the masters’ bathrooms, on the other hand, the resins dialogue with cut-to-size kerlite slabs that cover the shower walls, the bathtub as well as the furnishings: the result is very refined and elegant.
The concealed lighting made with Panzeri plaster recessed bodies flush with the wall creates games of direct and indirect light to enhance the architectural and furnishing choices.
While the decorative lighting of the tables and on the walls of the hallways is by Vibia.
Even the light furnishes the spaces creating evocative scenarios that are always different depending on the circumstance.
